ABC Victoria: Cyclists take ’slow ride’ to honour dead friend (5th August 2011)

More than 100 hundred cyclists rode as one along Beach Road in Melbourne this morning in honour of professional cyclist John Cornish.

Mr Cornish was struck and killed by a truck two weeks ago, while on a Brighton to Black Rock training ride with a friend.

Memorial ride organiser Olie Allan hopes that the 22 kilometre “slow ride” from the Elwood Life Saving Club to Black Rock and back, will help promote road safety.

The Age:  Somersault over car bonnet drives home risk to cyclists (16 May 2011)

Indigo Wood told his family recently it was a matter of when – not if – he would be hit by a car while riding to work.  On Friday, his words proved prophetic when a driver accidentally collided with Mr Wood in evening peak-hour traffic on Wellington Street, Collingwood. ”I went into her left-hand front panel and headlights and, according to all the witnesses, I went up into the air, over the bonnet and did a complete somersault, bike still attached, and landed on my helmet and then on to my back on the road,” he said. ”The helmet is a complete write-off.” The accident has left him with swollen knees.
