The Age:  Somersault over car bonnet drives home risk to cyclists (16 May 2011)

Indigo Wood told his family recently it was a matter of when – not if – he would be hit by a car while riding to work.  On Friday, his words proved prophetic when a driver accidentally collided with Mr Wood in evening peak-hour traffic on Wellington Street, Collingwood. ”I went into her left-hand front panel and headlights and, according to all the witnesses, I went up into the air, over the bonnet and did a complete somersault, bike still attached, and landed on my helmet and then on to my back on the road,” he said. ”The helmet is a complete write-off.” The accident has left him with swollen knees. Bayside Council approves clearway on Beach Road – Wednesday, 1 September 2010

Bayside City Council has approved the extension of the clearway zone of Beach Rd on weekends.
Bayside Council approves clearway on Beach Road

In a historical vote Bayside City Council has approved the extension of the clearway zone of Beach road throughout the Bayside area on weekends. It is now believed that this is a world first – to have a clearway for such an extended distance in a large urban environment.

CycleSport Victoria is confident that the clearway will make Beach Rd safer for cyclists and reduce the stress for motorists with the certainty of specific cycle and motor vehicle lanes during the clearway times. [Read more →]
