I and my friends ride along Beach Road on most weekends (weather permitting) and we have noticed the marked increase in abuse levelled at cyclists who in my view are doing nothing wrong. The way to alleviate most of the car/bike issues on Beach Rd would be to introduce weekend clearways, but unfortunately i don't think this will happen, we can only but hope.

What was that cop saying - the bikes are our own worst enemies. Maybe we should start with a bit of re-education for the boys in blue!

The Beach Rd is definitely one of the finest cycling routes in Australia.
It is internationally recognised as such.
One would wonder why our bay-side environmentally, & as a recreation area, is subjected to the heavy traffic barrage that it is.
Comparable sites across the world are valued & cared for in a much more sustainable manner for the overall benefit of the community.
The southern section of the Gold Coast (Tweed Heads) is one such example, parkland, walking & cycling paths, as well as motor access with the heavier traffic route away from the coast.
The increasing numbers of cyclists using Beach Rd & the number of accidents alone warrants a response to the issues.
The Beach Rd Cyclist group is setting the pace in cyclists safety
Weekend Clearways is an important & progressive step towards a safer more sustainable environment on the Beach Rd.
